June 16 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm EDT$5
CNY Drones and the SUNY Polytechnic Institute Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) Student Club will host their first Drone Tech Meet on the SUNY Poly Utica Campus, Saturday, June 16, at 6:30pm. The event, in Donovan Hall’s Center for Global Advanced Manufacturing (CGAM), is open to those 11+ interested in learning about drones and those already involved in flying. Donation is $5 at the door. Closed toe shoes and lab rules are in effect. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions, drone gear, and current build projects. Indoor flying of Tiny Whoop class drones is permitted during the event. AMA members with current identification can fly outside on campus in specified AMA Club flight zones. Maps will be provided. Current drone enthusiasts and those new to drones can mingle, exchange ideas and discuss the latest technology improvements for recreational drone use. The event includes updates on summer and fall drone races, introductory programs and the kick-off for Forest Fury, the CNY Drones 2019 STEM-Based Team Drone Challenge.
CNY Drones hosts a recreational drone information hub along with programs to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) and their link to drone tech industry. CNY Drones and the SUNY AMA Club are a part of a growing network of Model Student Aviation Student Clubs in the United States. Both groups were the first to run under the new AMA affiliation in New York State. Together, they assist schools and community groups that seek the benefits of AMA membership for their drone clubs, including access to important safety information and low-cost insurance.
